First, get safe

• Get the bike as far off the travel lane as you can, ideally past the end of a guardrail or into a lot.
• Hazards on. Stand away from the bike and away from traffic, behind a barrier if there is one.
• If you are in a dangerous spot on a highway, call 911. In Connecticut, state police can send help and protect the scene.

Ask for the right tow

• Say "motorcycle" first. Not every truck carries a wheel chock, soft straps or a flatbed. The companies on our list do this regularly.
• Request a flatbed. A bike should never be towed with a wheel lift.
• Give an exact location. Highway, direction and the nearest exit or mile marker. Drop a pin if you can.
